the artist
Prayrain, born Caroline McGowan, grew up in the suburbs of Des Moines, Iowa singing with a hairbrush in the mirror to the Spice Girls, Christina Aguilera, and P!nk. She went west to Oregon for college and spent a few years exploring paths she wasn’t meant for — careers, hobbies, and romances. All the while, she took countless voice memos of songs she would never write. Eventually she realized songwriting was her path, and moved to Nashville, Tennessee to roll the dice.
In 2019, Prayrain was asked to collaborate on producer and hip-hop artist, Timpo’s, album “Empty”. They penned the hook for “Take Me Anywhere” and thus she debuted as a pop artist. Prayrain co-wrote and released her first single “One-Sided” with friend and musician Tom Lohrmann. The song was featured on playlists around the world — including Spotify Italia editorial playlist “Voglia di Estate”. Her second single “Moving On Feels Like” released November 13.
She describes her sound as playful and powerful. “My writing celebrates empathy and all the colors of emotions. I want to write sad songs like they are happy songs and vice-versa. I love pop music because it creates energy. I want to give people reasons to dance and sing. ”

the name
“Pray rain” was originally coined for the spiritual practice of journaling about what one wishes for as if your wish has already come true. It is believed that if you write about your fantasies in the present moment, you will attract them. For too long I believed that to be an artist was a fantasy meant for someone else. I have come to discover that your dreams choose you, and you must listen to them. For this reason, I chose the name Prayrain — to silence my doubt and bring my artistic vision to life.
To Prayrain is to manifest your desires
ignore reality
use your imagination
create what you want
channel your energy
respect your own power
and watch fantasy become reality.
